Coach USA and megabus.com applaud the bi-partisan effort by more than 25 U.S. Senators who signed on to a letter, authored by Senator Daines (R-MT) and Senator Van Hollen (D-MD), to Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Leader Schumer (D-NY) in support of relief for the motorcoach industry. Relief is particularly critical now in order to allow the industry to re-start services following a period of several months without significant revenues due to COVID-related economic shut-down.
“On behalf of all of our employees at Coach USA, I thank these extraordinary leaders who stepped up at this critical time to voice their support for the motorcoach industry,” said Linda Burtwistle, CEO, Coach USA.
Additionally, more than 90 bi-partisan members of the US House of Representatives signed on to a letter, authored by Congressmen Katko (R-NY) and Sires (D-NJ), sent to Speaker Pelosi (D-CA), Minority Leader McCarthy (R-CA), Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Leader Schumer (D-NY) urging the leadership to support relief for the motorcoach industry.
Burtwistle continued, “We will continue to work with these leaders to make sure the motorcoach industry is represented and supported in future Congressional COVID-19 relief efforts.”
The $2 trillion CARES Act, which was signed into law on March 27, omitted the private intercity motorcoach industry while providing direct assistance to other forms of passenger service, airlines, public transit and Amtrak. The industry is requesting assistance in the form of grants and loans, including assistance that would administered by DOT for the restoration of intercity and commuter services on which hundreds of thousands of persons routinely rely. In addition, we strongly support the efforts of Chairmen Neal and DeFazio and Senators Collins and Reed urging that a portion of the Economic Stabilization Funds provided for in the CARES Act be used for motorcoach industry relief.
